BARCELONA AGENDA 29.8.16-4.9.16

The other day I met some friends that I did not see in a while and all of them asked me how was my summer. For me summer is not over in Barcelona until October so this is one of the best summers of my life!

It is true that in September with the “end of the holidays” for most of the people and kids going back to school the city starts going back to normal. I know, August was quite peaceful with less people in the city and surroundings, but it unfortunately it cannot last forever!

Advertising for the post vocational depression is everywhere  already, instead, we propose different things to do in Barcelona for free (or not very expensive) to keep yourself busy and enjoy the city. Let´s check it out!

MONDAY 29TH OF AUGUST | TOT SOM SÙPERS!

I pass by Palau Robert quite a lot and I saw there where a few exhibitions inside, thus I decided to walk in and check out what was going on (and I have to say I didn’t get it)… The exhibition is quite different and unique and after doing some research now I know what I saw!

Tots som súpers! L’exposició dels 25 anys de Super3

Probably the reason I don’t know The Super 3 is because I am not Catalan, don’t have kids and I don’t watch much telly… Super 3 is a public service that provides entertainment, information and innovation while teaching kids positive values and habits, promoting the Catalan and English language. This exhibition shows their work for the past 25 years and it is quite fun. Here you have your easy, free and accessible plan for Monday and another way to get closer to Catalan culture 😉

TUESDAY 30TH OF AUGUST | CHINA TOWN AT FILMOTECA DE CATALUNYA

Looking for something to do on a Tuesday evening after work that involves no drinking? We have the perfect plan for you at Raval!

watch chinatown for free at filmoteca de catalunya

We introduced  Filmoteca de Catalunya for first time last week and after checking their website they have quite of a good offer for almost every day of the week. On Tuesday at 8pm they will be showing the movie China Town from Roman Polanski where you can enjoy one of the classics of neo-noir films. Based  in Los Angeles the movie was inspired on California water wars.  Starring Jack Nicholson, the movie was nominated 11 times to the Academy Award in 1975 and is considered one of the best movies of all times.

WEDNESDAY 31ST OF AUGUST | MÚSICA ALS PARCS: DANI NEL·LO & LLUÍS COLOMA TRIO AT PARC DEL CLOT

This plan has been on my to do list the whole summer. Thank goodness I saw something online about it because this is the last concert of the season.

música als parcs, free jazz and blues concerts around Barcelona city parks

This is a initiative from Barcelona´s council who organized  several summer  free concerts around the parks in the city. This time the event will take place at Parc del Clot with a Blues concert by the hand of Dani Nel·lo (saxophonist and member of Los mambo Jambo) and Lluís Coloma (pianist worldwide recognized).

The show starts at 9pm, hope to see you there! More info here.

THURSDAY 1ST OF SEPTEMBER | EL VERANO DE RADIOAFRICA AT EL MARAVILLAS

A bit more of music to keep our week fun and active, this time by the beach which is a plus!  Chirinnguito el Maravillas welcomes every Thursday the show from Radio Africa Maganize and their DJ´s who enlighten  everybody with rhythms like Afrolatin, Ngwana and Kizomba among others.radio africa en el maravillas

Radio Africa Magazine is a very cool and innovative project in Barcelona. Borne in 2015 they count with the magazine, a radio station, an online shop and several cultural projects offering a different idea and perspective of Africa.

it might be a bit of a challenge to get to El Maravillas, from my house is like 1 hour, but what is this distance compared to what I used to do everyday in London to go to work? It is a beach party bro!

FRIDAY 2ND OF SEPTEMBER | CANTINA MACHITO

If there is something that I enjoy to do in Barcelona is eating Mexican food, yuuummm! There are many options in the city but so far the most authentic place we have visited is Cantina Machito in Gracia.

authentic mexican food in gracia

I have to say that food and drinks are amazing but I think I like the decoration even better (Cantina Machito don´t be upset with me). I love Frida Kahlo, I feel a great respect for this lady that had such a hard life but never forgot to live and enjoy all the way through, doing everything on her own way and trusting herself.

Cantina Machito is a “mini casa azul” with many pictures and representations of Frida´s life, going there is like a mini trip around her life in the heart of Barcelona. Since on the 30th of August was my birthday… I am ok if someone wants to take me there for dinner …

SATURDAY 3RD OF SEPTEMBER | PALO ALTO MARKET

You haven´t been there yet? Well, you are only missing the best market in Barcelona, no biggie!

We went to Palo Alto for first time this winter and had a great time! I love to get lost and speak with the people from the stands finding out where do they get their stuff from, if its handmade or if I can find them in a shop or online.palo alto market is backFood is amazing as well, they have a little space full of very cute vans with dishes for all kind of tastes. What I like the most is the music, very well selected and quite special. During our first time at Palo Alto we ended up having a few gin tonics and a great party with one of the bands and a dj (cannot remember their names sorry!). We have been there two more times and probably this Saturday again 😉

I meet some of the organizers this summer in a house party and they are super friendly and charming, congrats from Guiris en Barcelona to this great event!

SUNDAY 4TH OF SEPTEMBER | BRUNCH IN THE PARK

Brunch in the park is almost finishing the season and of course we would not let them go before trying out the big party they organize every Sunday at Jardins de Joan Brossa.

There are thousands of things to do in Barcelona but we keep repeating those that we love over and over again and this is the case with The Brunch guys! Anyone who likes electronic music needs to come to this event at least once (this will be our fourth time, I think…). Plus Tale of us will entretein us this Sunday (one of my Italians friends would kill to be there, sorry Giuseppe!) brunch in the park, tale of us sunday 4th of septemberI love the vibe there, everybody is super cool with their crazy sunglasses and outfits plus it is a day time party  (my fave) so you can have a couple of beers, a bit of dancing and go home to start the week like a good boy/girl on Monday (unless you are on holidays or don´t really mind to go to work a bit hangover…). They also have some market stands and food!

More info here.

Hope you enjoy the selection!

Last week we reached 1500 friends on Facebook and the amount of readers keeps growing every week which is very rewarding. Thank you again for being there and enjoying our proposals every week! Much love! ❤
