BARCELONA AGENDA 22.8.16-28.8.16

Las week we enjoyed the beautiful Fiestas de Gracia and this one we are lucky enough to have  Sants Festa Major.

According to my catalan friends (who live in Sants), Gracia spend more time and money on concerts and activities while Sants are more focus on decoration. I don´t fully trust them so I think the only way to find out is going to both…

Last week the agenda focused only on Gracia´s fest but I was missing a bit of cultural stuff so we go back to the normal agenda with a bit extra of cool parties in Sants Festival 😉

MONDAY 22ND OF AUGUST | THE GARDEN AT THE FUNDACIÓ JULIO MUÑOZ RAMONET

Last week I found myself in Carrer Muntaner after a good breakfast in Spanish bar run by Asian people (yeah, it is a common thing in Barcelona. Sometimes their food is quite good and price is even better but others I want to run away when they bring frozen croquetas…). Anyway, after my half bocadillo de Jamon and orange juice I walked in El Jardi de la Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet and it’s beautiful, shame I didn’t have my camera with me!

The business man donated the house to Barcelona´s council and they opened the doors to the garden this June. It isn’t very big but it’s quite charming with a few fountains and a good variety of flowers and plants. You can see a bit inside of the buildings through he doors and they have a lot of covered furniture. I wonder if they will make it look pretty and open  the buildings to the public. We will see…

TUESDAY 23RD OF AUGUST |AMY WINEHOUSE TRIBUTE

Zalon & The Gramophone All Stars Big Band will play their tribute to Amy Winehouse during the 5 years anniversary without her. It´s organized by San Miguel Mas I Mas music festival at Palau de la Música this Tuesday.

Zalon & The Gramophone All Stars Big Band tribute to amy wine house

Zalon is one of the main singers that accompanied Amy during her success and was with her when winning the 5 Grammies. They were kind of best friends and lived many experiences together, that´s why he decided to do a tribute to our beloved Amy.  The Gramophone All Stars Big Band make honour to its name since they count with 15 musicians, and, wait for it, they are from here!

Mas i mas has been organizing many concerts through the whole summer but this one is definitely one of the best, using the stage of the Palau de la Música to surprise everybody. Oh man, I so want to do this!

Price is 28€, you can find more info here.

WEDNESDAY 24TH OF AUGUST | WOODSTOCK, THE DIRECTOR´S CUT

Have you been to Fimoteca de Catalunya in Raval already? This week you have the perfect excuse to explore this area and do something different. They are showing the documentary Woodstock that took place in 1969 and shows one of the biggest “hippie” festivals in history.

Things to do in Barcelona on wednesday . Woodstock documentary, the director´s cut.

This time we have the chance to watch the director´s cut that last 224 minutes with some of the main music bands of that time, many of them still active. I think it´s quite interesting to see how was the original hippie movement, what inspired them at that time and compare how it has evolved until today.  The documentary starts at 5pm at Sala Chamón. I hope you can make it!

There is a movie based on this festival called Taking Woodstock where they use several images from the documentary that is quite cool if you want to watch it before or after this event 😉

More info here.

Since the film will finish quite early you still have time to check what´s cracking at Sants Festival. If you are a funk lover, we have the best party proposal for you here.

THURSDAY 25TH OF AUGUST | GANDULES 2016: VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS

The initiative Gandules 2016 from CCCB is being a total success. We tried to go on the first day of the festival when they were playing an Almodovar´s film and couldn’t make it inside, there was a long queue so decided to come back another day.

things to do in barcelona on thursday. Free movies at CCCB

The film festival is inspired in the seven deadly sins and a few others.  I was checking the different movies playing during the week and the one that called my attention was Valerie and her week of wonders under the theme “extreme fantasy”. Looks like one of those movies that you might have some fun if you had a little smoke first… anyone joining?

More info here.

After the movies and if you are feeling like moving your body there is a 70´s, 80´s and 90´s party at Carrer Rosend Arús to celebrate Sants Festa Major. Don´t be shy and enjoy your “Juernes”.

FRIDAY 26TH OF AUGUST | FLAMENCO AT BIS CASA GRACIA

Long time no see! You all know that I am totally in love with Casa Gracia and all the activities the organize all the time. We cannot give antagonism to only one place but time to time we have no other option that come back to them because they are great!

things to do in barcelona on a friday, free flamenco show

On Friday they have a free flamenco show at their cocktail place downstairs (BIS), which is great so you can have a yummy dinner in the restaurant and come down to enjoy the show with a lovely drink in your hand. What a better plan for a Friday?

They have a modern African music concert on Saturday if you prefer this plan 😉

SATURDAY 27TH OF AUGUST | LA TERRRAZZA MEETS POLO DE LIMON

I have heard very good things about La Terrrazza but with all the summer trips and the busy weekends I wasn’t still able to check it out!

la terrrazza meets polo de limon at poble spanyol

I contacted them a few months ago during the OFF WEEK and they were super friendly and kind. This Saturday they are welcoming at their privileged spot in Poble Spanyol Polo de Limon. Specialist in open air and day time parties they will surprise us with a night event at La Terrrazza, full of music and dance under the stars.

More info here.

SUNDAY 28TH OF AUGUST | HOTEL H10 CUBIK  TERRACE

This hotel is super close to my previous job but never went inside until a couple of weeks ago that I visit the bar downstairs and their atik. After that I can say is one of the places that surprised me the most lately in Barcelona.

coctails at hotel h10 cubik terrace

The decoration is beautiful and very well balanced, quite modern and elegant at the same time. I recommend you to explore it as much as you can (or the hotel staff allows you) before heading upstairs to their incredible terrace.

They count with one of the best views of the city with the cathedral in front of you. The hotel is in via Laeitana very close to the sea so you can feel the breeze once you are up there. Drinks are affordable and even the menu to have some tapas in their atik looks quite good so move your ass from the sofa and do something cool during your Sunday!
