BARCELONA AGENDA 19.12.16-25.12.16

This weeks agenda is a pre-Xmas treat for you to get some good ideas of places to find your last minute presents (although, you should really have them already with the amount of markets we recommend every week) and some activities to do (typically Spanish) during those days for you to enjoy Barcelona as a real local 😉

MONDAY 19TH OF DECEMBER | PESEBRE PLAZA SANT JAUME

It is very typical to walk around Barcelona and find the different nativity exhibitions in different parts of  the city. Some neighborhoods and  schools recreate a live nativity where specially kids can dress up like popular Christmas characters and represent the nativity scene for family, friends and visitors.

I haven´t been there yet but I have heard very good things about the creative way Plaza Sant Jaume is introducing us to Christmas with different nativity scenes based on the poem of the artist J. V. Foix. For sure one of the things you need to do this year before heading off your home country!

TUESDAY 20TH OF DECEMBER | VERDI VERD

One of our favourite places to find those great presents that your family and friends deserve is Verdi Verd in Gracia.

I visit those guys quite frequently at their art space. They are super nice and approachable, always with a smile on their face and some cool story about all the items they have in their shop. They know personally each artist displaying their work in their space and even the creators of the pieces they sell in their incredible shop.

They are very conscious and always try to promote local commerce, handmade products, fair trade and they participate in several projects as Bio Barna Ilustrada, an incredible calendar for 2017 where they show through several designs and designers the different animals we live with in Barcelona. Another perfect present for those days 😉

WEDNESDAY 21ST OF DECEMBER | PRESENTACIO DE L´AGENDA DE VINS CATALANS

Faithful to our love for wine this event it’s just perfect to fill our pre-Xmas time and get some very cool presents. Patricia De Golferichs, the creator of the wine agenda has been touring around Catalunya like a superstar to present this master piece where you can find a wine recommendation for every day of the year.

The presentation will take place at La Festival, place where Patricia does some monthly wine presentations and will have the collaboration of Tr3s C club. Of course, there will be some wine tasting and you can take home some nice bottles to share during those special days.

I know Patricia very well and I can tell you that she has been working very hard on this agenda and I wish her the best of luck with this amazing project!

THURSDAY 22ND OF DECEMBER | LA NOSTRA CUITAT

We have already recommend this place but the truth is that we absolutely love it and there aren’t many places around Barcelona where you can find such a good mix of items. They work as a collective space where you can find the designs from different artists in only one place.

Good news for the busy ones, they opened their online shop so you can find and buy everything on the net as well, you will be missing the magic of walking around the shop and touching everything but it is more convenient, quick and you can send it directly to the person (I hope you are not that late!).

FRIDAY 23RD OF DECEMBER | HELLO CHRISTMAS IN PLAZA CATALUNYA

As every year, most of the cool Christmas things in the city are happening around Plaza Catalunya who will welcome us every day of the week with different events and activities.

One of my favorites is the 2a Fira del Consum Responsable, where they will count with more than 44 stands representing different companies, associations and groups helping the growth of sustainable consumption in Barcelona.

There will be different acts and concerts throughout the day and evening so just go for a walk around at any time 😉

SATURDAY 24TH OF DECEMBER | XMAS MARKETS

As you can see, there is nothing more typical in Barcelona than going to the street and check out the different activities going on outdoors and try to find a present for your loved ones while supporting the local and small commerce, which I think it´s something amazing do to and really respect this city for that.

One of my favorite markets is the one in Gran Via, although it takes them ages to build up this market and take it away making impossible for cyclist to use the cycle lane this market is only on from the 21st of December until the 6th of January.

The two other big Xmas markets in Barcelona are Feria de Santa Lucia at The Cathedral and Feria de Navidad de la Sagrada Familia, super cute both of them where you can find lot´s of typical Spanish Christmas decoration and learn a bit more of the Christmas tradition in Spain, and specially Catalunya, since they count with some stuff such us “El caganet” and “El Cagatio” a bit disturbing but very unique.

SUNDAY 25TH OF DECEMBER | CHOCOLATE CON CHURROS AT CARRER PETRITXOLL

Sunday´s in general should be chilled, but on Christmas Sunday you should not be allowed to move, just eat the Christmas leftovers and roll onto your sofa.

If you are feeling adventurous, a typical thing you can do during the Christmas period is to have a hot chocolate con churros in Carrer Petritxoll. Leave some space in your tummy for those amazing pieces of heaven, we all know  everybody´s new year’s resolution is to hit the gym, so enjoy while you can!

Very Christmassy agenda this week. We hope you like it and we gave you some good ideas for those last minute presents. Good luck playing “El sorteo de navidad”, if I win the lottery I will probably disappear for a while in some exotic paradise, but will for sure stay in touch 😉
